Reasons People Change Dentists
Moving to a new area. A previous dentist retiring or a practice being taken over. Feeling rushed, or seeing a different person every visit with no continuity. Being recommended a lot of treatment without an explanation that made sense. Costs that appeared partway through rather than being agreed up front. Insurance no longer being accepted. Difficulty getting an appointment within a reasonable time. Wanting a practice that handles more in-house rather than referring out for root canals, implants and orthodontics. Wanting somewhere better suited to a family, so children and adults can be seen in the same place. And, commonly, a bad experience somewhere that put someone off dentistry entirely and left them wanting a fresh start with people who do not know their history.
What to Look For
Continuity matters more than most people realise: a dentist who has watched the same tooth over several years spots the change that a stranger cannot. Scope matters too: a practice that handles restorative work, endodontics, surgical procedures, orthodontics and implant-based care in one office means fewer referrals, fewer new sets of forms, and one team who know the whole picture. Ask how a practice handles cost, because being told the figure before treatment rather than after is the single thing patients most often say was missing at their last dentist. Ask what they do for nervous patients, since the answer reveals a lot. And look at whether they explain things. Being shown the intraoral photograph of your own cracked filling is a different experience from being told you need a crown.
Your First Visit
We offer digital registration forms that make your first appointment a breeze, so most of the paperwork is done before you arrive. Bring your insurance details and, if you have them, the name of your previous practice so we can request your records and recent X-rays rather than repeating them. The first visit is a full examination: your teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues, with X-rays where they are needed, plus an oral cancer screening. We will show you what we find on screen and give you a clear picture of where things stand, along with any treatment we would recommend, in priority order, with costs. Once your reservation is scheduled our team will provide you with a complimentary verification of benefits so that we may answer any questions that you may have on the day of your appointment. If it has been a long time since your last visit, say so when you book. It is common and it simply means we allow more time.
